Trees To Plant For Grounds Care After Recent Tree Felling

GMCB Ltd • 27 July 2023

After recent tree felling, it can make the grounds feel very empty or you may feel slightly guilty for having to fell a tree. Understanding which trees to grow in their place can help eliminate this.

Sorbus aucuparia (rowan)

Rowan trees, with their silvery-brown bark, creamy white spring blossoms, and flaming fall foliage, offer a lovely compliment to your garden's colour scheme. The colourful fall berries are very alluring to birds, so your grounds will rapidly turn into a wildlife refuge! Rowan is the best option for any size garden thanks to its consistent but definite 20–40 cm yearly growth.

-      Annual growth: 20–40 cm

-      Actual height: 8–15 metres

Populus deltoides x Populus nigra (Hybrid Poplar)

This hybrid tree known as Populus Poplar is a robust and adaptable clone that was created by natural plant breeding. The clone will develop into a substantial tree with a thick stem. Ideal for growing windbreaks, screening, and producing wood fuel. Having glossy green, heart-shaped leaves that are deciduous and change to vivid yellow in the autumn.

-      Annual growth: 1.6 - 2m

-      Actual height: 10 - 12m

Plum Trees

Plum trees are the ideal size for any garden, producing abundant, delicious fruit that may be eaten fresh off the tree or prepared into crumbles and jams. You may now pick from a wide selection of potted or bare-root plum trees. The best time to grow bare-root plum trees is between November and March. Since they can be carried without pots and are now in their dormant period, they are of great value and will establish themselves rapidly and bloom in the spring.

Tree-forming hawthorn

The tree-forming variety Crataegus persimilis 'Prunifolia' outperforms common hedgerow hawthorns in terms of aesthetic value. 'Prunifolia' has more rounded growth, glossier, darker, and whiter-tinged blooms that are accompanied by pink anthers. Bright crimson fruits and lovely autumn foliage colours appear after the blossoms.

Pyrus communis 'D'Anjou' (Anjou Pear)

The Rosaceae family includes the Anjou Pear tree. This pear tree will bloom in the spring with gorgeous clusters of white flowers, and the fruit will appear later. The fruit's colour doesn't change much as it ripens, but some varieties may develop a faint blush on their skin. Its autumnal-rich green leaves turn to deep purple colours, creating an amazing visual spectacle.

This tree may reach a height of 15 metres!
